Sonja Möderndorfer

My name is Sonja Möderndorfer.

I grew up with my two brothers and my parents in an idyllic part of Carinthia, right at the foot of Mount Dobratsch, in the Gail Valley – a truly splendid area. From an early age I was fascinated by the natural beauty of my surroundings and by the majestic presence of the mountains, which always
drew me outdoors. The unspoiled nature of this enchanting corner of the Alps sparked in me a great curiosity and an adventurous spirit. With the boundless energy of a child, my mother, always loving and generous, often took me on long hikes. Under her care, I had the opportunity to gain valuable mountain experiences from a very young age.

Driven by a deep thirst for knowledge, at the age of 14 I aspired to climb the highest mountains and dreamed of conquering some of the most beautiful peaks of the Alps.

I currently work full-time in the emergency department of the hospital in Innsbruck. My job is very demanding, time-consuming and often challenging. Nevertheless, I try to make the most of every free moment by devoting myself to nature.
The desire to take on new alpine challenges grows in me every day. That's why, since 2017, I've been a volunteer with the local mountain rescue service, where I've been able to acquire valuable mountaineering skills. The training lasts four years in total, during which you learn to navigate in the mountains, to master various rescue techniques and to apply them even in difficult weather conditions.

I took up paragliding some time ago, to get a better view of our beautiful region from above.

In recent years, my faithful dog Ylvie, a Siberian Husky, has accompanied me on all my journeys. She's always by my side, both during my mountain hikes and in everyday life.
