I share the mountains as I truly experience them: with genuine emotions, authenticity, and no filters.

Introducing myself is always the hardest part for me.
Who are you? You just have to tell who you are. There is a lot to say about me, or very little, depending on your point of view! Let's start with the easiest part; I'm Sara, born in 1994. I live in the province of Venice. In life I do something completely different from what appears on my social channels, where I share my outings in the mountains, from trekking to via ferratas, to more mountaineering-oriented outings, with a smile and the awareness of being a truly very lucky girl. I work as an administrative clerk in a metalworking company in the province of Padua. A few years ago my partner Nico and I started a YouTube channel “Sara Lazzari” where we share every one of our wonderful days among Dolomite spires and wide mountain meadows.
I like to tell how things really are and to be myself; I laugh and cry without shame, because the emotion you feel once you reach a summit or after fulfilling a great dream does not need to be stifled but to be told. I have never been afraid to show my weaknesses and, on the contrary, in recent years I have also wanted to describe myself for exactly who I am, in the hope of offering a little emotional support to families and to some people who, like me, suffer from the same illness.
About 8 years ago I got into the mountains with my first treks, becoming so passionate that I wanted to understand more. I took the Mountaineering course with the CAI of Padua (PD) and the Rock course with the CAI of Mirano (VE). Little by little I pushed myself towards more alpine outings, normal routes and some rock routes, feeling so alive that my heart burst with a thousand emotions. I met many people and began to love myself, to have more confidence in myself and to understand that deep down I was not so different from others after all. The past is the past, but it leaves its mark and allows you to grow with a different, broader vision.
As a child I was told "you are a girl with serious asthma problems, you can't afford to do what others do", and so I always gave up on everything, giving up on living. As I grew up I learned to live with it and to manage it as best I can. Experiencing the mountains in all their facets is therefore not only a great passion but also a need for my health. If my past was so black and dark that it still awakens much sadness today, on the other hand there was a huge glimmer of light that chose to reach me: the Pio XII Institute in Misurina (BL). From the age of 12 to 17 I was a patient at the only centre in Italy for the treatment and rehabilitation of childhood asthma. My story is very long; my life in Misurina took up much of my more or less positive memories. Unfortunately, since 31/12/2022 the centre has been permanently closed due to financial problems linked to low admissions... Since 2019, together with Federasma and other former patients, parents and all the people who care about this place, we have fought and are still fighting for the reopening of the centre.
I have appeared in many media outlets such as “Il Gazzettino”, “Agenzia Stampa Italia”, “il Dolomiti”, “Corriere delle Alpi”, “The Bottom Up”. On 25/11/2021 I appeared in a podcast with Radio24, “Pazienti in Rete, Sara’s story, a rebirth at 1,756 m”. I took part in a campaign video, “Prendiamo Fiato – ASMA e BPCO” (Let’s Catch Our Breath – Asthma and COPD). I appeared in Carlo Budel’s book “5 Stagioni”. I took part in the “Montagna consapevole” initiative promoted by the La Sapienza University of Rome. I wanted to tell my story, about my past and about who I truly am today, to make anyone who is like me feel a little less alone and perhaps more understood. I don’t want to inspire pity or stir up tenderness, but only to share what is the truth and to be able to help, even with a single word, that child who comes up to me and asks: “but will I one day be able to feel so well that I can climb mountains too?”.
Who knows what the future holds; in the meantime I keep telling of my emotions in the hope of being able to convey them to those who follow me too. The mountain saved me, in every sense. Unknowingly, it keeps doing so every single day.
